Part A is Hospital Insurance that covers inpatient care, a skilled nursing facility, hospice and some home healthcare. There are out-of-pocket costs for hospital stays, such as deductibles and coinsurance. This is premium free based on payroll deductions over your employment years.

Part B is Medical Insurance that helps with the costs of doctor visits, outpatient services and some preventive services. Part B has a monthly premium, usually taken out of your monthly Social Security check.
